Hiya, and welcome to an easy tutorial about streaming on twitch! Nothing big will be included here, no chat or overlays.
Purely for streaming a content properly with OBS!

Needed for this to work:

-Twitch account (https://www.twitch.tv/directory)
-Twitch stream key (https://www.twitch.tv/YOUR USERNAME/dashboard/streamkey)
-OBS (https://obsproject.com/)
-calcylathingy your pc (https://obsproject.com/estimator)
-Something to stream

Easy, huh?

-First off, lets install OBS.
Go to download page, and download "Latest Stable - 0.657" as seen in the picture below.
Image

-Install and run the program, and go to settings.
Image

-Calculate your settings using OBS estimator (link up there) and proceed to Encoding in settings
Image

Change it all around, and lets head over to "Broadcast settings"
Image
(When changing to twitch service, it gives you some tips in red. Worth to check out if you have it on.)

-Video
Not needed unless you are experiencing some troubles. 720p downscale can fix lag.
-Audio
Change to your devices and if you are using a mic, then tinkering with delay might be needed, but just might.

-Advanced
With twitch, we need to change encoding profile to "main" and Keyframe interval to 2 sec.
Image

Exit "Settings"

There! All done so far! Now to actually get a game going!

-In OBS, lets create a scene to stream on/in/with/cat!
Rightclick the "Scene" box and click "add scene" (i recommend naming it properly)
Image

-Go into the box on the right, called "Sources" and rightclick and chooose add game capture.
Image

Game capture will take the game screen, window will capture the whole screen, alt+tab and everything, and monitor.. Well, im not sure. I can only guess with probably 98% accuracy, and so can you.

Text and images are self explainatory.

Oh, and these works like layers, so the top is viewed ontop, get it?

-Game Capture
Image

Change application to the game, and always check if the game likes OBS or not, cheatwise. OBS is allowed, but it looks like a cheat sometimes. Tick anti cheat if google says so. Rather a google then a vacban.

Click ok...

Now, if everything is correctly done, we can stream! Click preview to change around with the sizes and such, and when you want,

Press !!START STREAMING!!

Yay!

If i missed anything or you need more help, please yell at me c:

No, not really :D I was mainly just curious how it all worked, chowing chats, streaming properly, beeing weird with soundboards and bots and so on. Ended with me streaming from time to time, but i studder like a cute bearded man, so haven indulged in the arts of streaming more then 10-20 occations over 1 year. But i like it :) Streaming can be cozy, chatting with different people all over the planet and discussing gaming. Love that :)

Feels like yesterday when sofa and Sega at a strangers house was the coolest thing ever. Now we have twitch :D

But im "TheMightyRandomWord" over there if you want to science :)

Awesome guide man! :D

A lot of people swear by XSplit over OBS, but personally I think they both have their foibles and are pretty much interchangeable.

If you're feeling ambitious, go for it! I'm sure anyone that is looking into it will want any information they can get to get started and do things right. ;)

My son and I are starting a father vs son stream on twitch this weekend. we will be using my xboxone and the twitch app on it. I'm wondering if it would be better to run it through my desktop and how I would do that.
Edit: it's pretty dam easy through the Xbox with Kinect so no need for answers on this one. Kid tested father approved.

But for science, i can answer that :D

You would need a thing called a "Capture card". Avermedia or elgato is the ones ive heard well about, Avermedia being the better one :) Just plug and play basically.

Dont use that myself, so im not too into the specifications.

Good when you use stuff like twitch alerts and cam :)

Yeah I'm not paying for a twitch account so I may need one to capture my streams for editing later.

Are you talkign about XSplit, or Twitch turbo? Neither of those are needed.
